Attendance Policy: Adult Education Center

To empower all students to function effectively in the society in which they live, regular attendance is promoted and encouraged for all students.

School Attendance Principles

Frequent absences of students from regular classroom learning experiences disrupt the continuity of the instructional process. The following school attendance principles are supported:

  • The entire process of education requires the regularity of instruction.

  • Students must earn 12 hours of in class time before being allowed to earn any credits or distance learning hours. Students may be considered “enrolled” in AE after the 12-hour requirement is met.

  • The goal of achieving maximum educational benefits requires regular attendance.

  • Attendance may be kept in a roll book/sign-in sheet/or by signing in on a device and entered into UASIS by the data administrator every two weeks or more often, if necessary.

Teachers will use the Remind app to contact students who are not consistently attending by phone, email, or text to encourage them to attend class. Remind.com is a great tool to send messages to all students to remind them of holidays or school closures and encourage them to return to class if they have been absent.

Dropped Students

Students who have not attended Adult Education for 90+ days are required to re-enroll, fill out new paperwork, do a new pre-test and pay a $50 fee prior to returning to the classroom. Students are separated due to inactivity as directed by the program director

Contact Hours

Documentation of each student’s attendance (contact hours) must be recorded regularly, entered into the UASIS database.

  • An instructional contact hour is academic instruction time under the supervision of a program employee.

  • Non-instructional contact hours include intake, SEOP development and review, assessment, telephone contact, emails to the student, and counseling provided

  • under the supervision of a program employee.
